Stormy Weather (A Winter at the Estate Tale)

It is indeed the dark time of the year. I’m sitting in my office listening to the CD-R that David Kidney made of Bela playing with the Huddled Masses Dance Band last week. It’s nice to see that he has a steady but soft approach to mastering a CD-R, a sadly rare skill these days when everyone thinks they can do this without learning how first!

The music is just loud enough to mask out the howling winds and driving snow that are quickly creating yet another night not safe for anyone to be out, so it looks as though Brigid and I will be using one of the guest rooms here tonight. Given that they’ve feather mattresses, goose down comforters, and ever-so-soft pillows, we’ll make do, I’m sure.

In the meantime, ’tis time for the evening feast. Brigid says that the kitchen staff is feeling eclectic as Mrs. Ware is off in Scotland again to visit her daughter and her children, so they’re serving extra spicy fish curries, mince pies, samosas, mulled cider, and several tasty puddings, including both rasberry and gooseberry syllabub. Are you coming along? Yes? Good — the kitchen staff is always happy to feed a guest or two. But do grab your button accordeon and I’ll bring my fiddle, as they’ll want a spot of entertainment before we dine…
