Whisky. Single dram.

Gunpowder, whisky, falling off the wire,
anything could put me in that ever-after choir
Hacks that want to see me shuffle off the shelf
I hand them each a bottle, I say: Go fuck yourself.

Oysterband‘s ‘The Shouting End of Life’

Ahhh whisky. The real stuff is best, even if bourbon and Irish whiskey have their places, which I will not dispute. Either a wee dram straight or with a splash of water is fine. Now I’m willing to bet that though you may consider yourself knowledgeable that you know little about the history of this noble drink, which is why you should read Whiskey: A Global History. And you can follow up that with a much more interesting read in Raw Spirit: In Search of the Perfect Dram, where our narrator goes to Scotland in search of the perfect whisky. Or at least a good time looking for it.

While sipping your favourite single malt, listen to The Water of Life, an entire collection of songs by a Scottish musician on (surprise!) his favourite subject — whisky.

I’ll be back later. In the meantime, I strongly recommend the Irish coffee with single malt whisky and cream that Reynard in the Pub is serving right now.
